Sticker tips

Instructions for stickers!? Nah, you know how they work. But maybe you’ll find some usefull tips.

Preparation

If you want the sticker to stick well, make sure the surface is flat and clean from dust etc. For a really good cleaning, end by wiping with rubbing alcohol (isopropyl). (For danes: Du kan også bruge husholdningssprit.)

Accurate positioning

If you want to position your sticker accurately, here’s a few ways.

Just a bit

  1. Peel the backing partially off and cut off a small bit, so the sticker can stick on a small bit of the sticker.
  2. Position the sticker. Since it’s only sticking a small area it’s easy enough to move it. Avoid pressing on the sticky bit.
  3. When you are happy with the position, press down on the sticky bit. Hold the sticky bit in place while removing the backing paper from the rest, press the sticker down.

Painters tape

  1. Use any non-flexible painters tape.
  2. Use one or more strips of painters tape on the top of the sticker to hold it where you want it, but keep the backing paper on the sticker. Readjust as much as you have to.
  3. Lift the sticker like a hinge, remove the backing paper, press the sticker down.
Moo

If it’s a very big sticker, you can tape the middle part. When you are happy with the position, remove backing paper from one half and press the sticky half to the surface. Then remove the tape and the rest of the backing paper.

Make the sticker last longer

To make the glue really stick, you can do one or more of these:

  • Press down on the sticker to activate the glue. Fingers is usually enough, but you can also use a credit card to burnish it really well. Be careful not to scratch the sticker though!
  • Apply heat, for exampe with a hair dryer. This will melt the glue slightly, and really let it get a grip.
  • Wait. Seriously, the glue takes time to set completely. After a few minutes it’s already sticking a lot better, but to be fully set it can take two days or more.

Removing stickers

How hard a sticker is to remove depends on many factors. Not just which sticker, but also the surface it’s stuck to, how long it’s been there etc.

All our stickers are made of vinyl,

  1. You can always start by simply trying to peel it off. If you’re lucky it comes off in one piece with no residue.
  2. You can apply heat with for example a hair drier to melt the glue a little, then try peeling off the sticker.
  3. If the sticker should leave some glue, you can try rubbing it off with a finger. Wiping it with rubbing alcohol can also help it let go.
